We discuss this issue with Giorgio Donegani, Food Technologist and Science Communicator, interviewed by our Marcella Mastrobuono.

Every year in Italy, we waste over 13 billion euros worth of food. Despite growing awareness of sustainability, food waste increased by nearly 50% in 2024 compared to the previous year!

The EU is taking action with the @foodguard_horizon project, developed by the National Consumers Union and 19 other partners, to reduce waste in the meat, fish, cheese, and packaged vegetable supply chains. How?

Innovative technologies are extending product shelf life by using microbiomes instead of chemical preservatives and smart packaging that monitors and protects food!

But half of all food waste happens in our homes! What anti-waste strategies can we adopt when shopping and in the kitchen?
